Graphic – Etching Art

Drawing has been a substantial component of my careers both in art and engineering. Working in graphics appeals to my linear logic – which is only a short step to etching to use in the printing process, or as the final product. Free form drawing, creating a template for etching a plate, or making screens for silk screen printing – working in graphic arts and etching has allowed me to create multiple copies of work whereas sculpture and carvings allow for only one of a kind production.

Buffalocrity – Mediocrity and Myoptiscism Perfected

Created in 2014, these three drawings reflect on Buffalo, NY. In almost every major urban center there are iconic towers reference in traffic reports, show on television, or used as a point of reference for locals. Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Toronto has the CN Tower, and Buffalo, well. Our landmark is the Blue Water Tower at the Intersection of I-90 and I-290.

Likewise, consider the significant bridges crossing important waterways in Boston, MA, or Oakland, CA. But spanning the Niagara River, the international border between New York and Ontario, we have…nothing of note. Do we need a statement bridge? No, but it would be nice! Despite efforts dating back almost 30 years, the Peace Bridge’s replacement has cost millions of dollars in studies, surveys, drawings, and plans, but the community? Has nothing.

Finally, let’s talk mass transit. Subway systems often center a location in the urban core of an area. Paris has Chetelet-Les-Halles. Chicago has the Loop. Buffalo has the Metro Rail that runs 6.4 miles in one, bent line that looks like it’s noting the time of day as 6:05. And we all know: even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

The copyrighted original works reside with me and function as a muse for similarly formatted, limited edition series. They were created on vellum paper using inks and colored pencils.

Letterpress Works

Tired of the outrageous price of drugstore greeting cards and the trite statements inside, these samples are my efforts to get away from commercial sentiments. The letterpress cards are hand set using engraved blocks and various type sets, then hand pulled, creating the final product. Each set of cards is a limited edition, numbered, and signed when custom designed and printed for a patron.

Silk Screen and Letterpress Text Works

The images I create for these prints and cards are based on the underlying purpose or use. Works may be strictly silk screened, or a combination of silk screen and letterpress. Each work is custom designed, pulled, numbered, and signed by the artist.
