About
The right brain / left brain theory is perhaps the best way to explain the myriad of my career. A diagnosis of dyslexia in elementary school, followed by educational tools and speech therapy, resulted in a style of linear thinking that provided the foundation for an engineering career. Adding to that an interest in art, and creativity became a cornerstone of both artistic production and out of the box thinking to solve complex technical problems.
In 2019 while on an art residency in Europe, I had the distinct pleasure to meet Jacques Kaufmann, a ceramics artist, as he was installing a large work on the grounds of the Musee Barbier-Mueller.
In the course of our discussion, he made a statement that I paraphrase here. “So, your left side supports your engineering efforts, and the right side supports your art activity. Your brain must be a very scary place!” Spot on Jacques, spot on.
Combining creativity and discipline has allowed me to develop and implement technical solutions in the energy and utility fields, as well as experiment in art that requires a strong understanding of the laws of physics, which we all know, always wins.
